The Mellinger Foundation is committed to the support of education, in accordance with the wishes of its founder, Inez Mellinger Hensleigh. Her goal was to provide an ongoing memorial to her brother, Edward A. Mellinger, who believed that education was of major significance to the progress of human society. Accordingly, the Foundation devotes a major portion of its resources in providing scholarships to men and women from western Illinois who attend colleges and universities throughout the nation.
The Mellinger Foundation awards scholarships to undergraduate students who attend accredited colleges and universities or accredited and/or recognized vocational schools within the United States. In addition, the Foundation makes grants to qualified charitable organizations for educational purposes.
The Mellinger Foundation is the recipient of a grant from the Illinois Clean Air Community Foundation. This grant made it possible for the Foundation to replace lighting fixtures throughout the building with those that are more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. Through its Energy Efficiency Program, the Illinois Clean Air Community Foundation supports nonprofit organizations in their efforts to reduce energy consumption in buildings. By reducing energy consumption, the Mellinger Foundation is helping the environment and saving money for future scholarship awards.
